I am from Guelph, On but currently live and train in Toronto with the University of Toronto Track Club.
I attended the University of Guelph where I graduated with a degree in International Development (with a focus in Political Science and Economics).
I intend to go to law school in the future, but am currently focusing full time on track to see how far I can go in the sport.
I have been running competitively for the past 11 years, starting in high school. I had some success in high school but more importantly gained a foundation and love for the sport.
I competed in the NCAA briefly before transferring to the University of Guelph where I ran cross country and track. I developed quickly into a national level competitor during university and contributed to two CIS team championship titles in cross country, and won the cross country championships as an individual as well as the 3000m indoors.
I then committed to running post- collegiately and won my first National title in the 5000m in 2013. I moved to Toronto in 2015, but suffered a season ending foot injury and did not compete. I came back from that injury, and had my most successful season ever in 2016, where I ran personal bests in the 5000m, 3000m and 1500m and represented Canada at the Rio Olympics.
How I Stay Motivated
I stay motivated by setting goals each week for mileage that I want to run, the number of strength workouts I need to do and times I want to hit in workouts.
I have big goals that I want to achieve this summer, but the races can see so far away at times that I try to focus on the process each day and just enjoy and be present in the workout that I have to do that day.
My goals for this summer season are to represent Canada at the IAAF World Championships in London in the 5000m and to make the final there. I also want to run a time in the 5000m that would put me in the top 3 all time in Canada. This season I intend to defend my Canadian National 5000m title on the track and road.
In the following years, I hope to represent Canada at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, and the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Qatar. My ultimate goal is to become a two-time Olympian by competing at the 2020 Olympics.
