LeanFit Transformation Stories highlight everyday Canadians who are working to live their healthiest lives ever. After trying numerous diets, Shelby Lewit finally overcame her weight loss plateau. This is her transformation story.
At the end of last summer, Shelby Lewit felt like she’d hit a wall. Even though she was exercising constantly, the numbers on her bathroom scale refused to budge. She’d arrived where many of us end up after sticking to an unchanging exercise and diet regime: a weight loss plateau.
“I really felt the need to make a change,” remembers Lewit. And it wasn’t for lack of trying. Over the years, Lewit had cycled through a wide range of diets — paleo, low carb, no carb, you name it!
When we hit a plateau, we have only two options: We can either change our diet, or change our exercise routine. Lewit decided to do both.
Challenging Her Weight Loss Plateau
“I joined a fitness challenge so that I would have both the motivation and a plan,” she says. It was a 12-week fat-loss and muscle-building challenge hosted by a personal trainer. The challenge also included a social media group so participants could cheer each other on and ask each other questions.
Through the challenge, and by scouring various online websites for advice, Lewit learned she wasn’t giving her body the nutrients she needed to get where she wanted to go. “I learned that I need to fill my body with the right amount of carbohydrates, proteins and fats in order to fuel my workouts,” she says. “I wasn’t consuming nearly enough protein and carbs during the day to build muscle.”
A Diet That Finally Worked
In Lewit’s search for foods and supplements to support her progress during her fitness challenge, she stumbled upon LeanFit protein. “I remember first seeing LeanFit at Costco,” says Lewit. “It was on sale and I thought I would give it a try.”
During the challenge, Lewit turned to LeanFit to meet her daily protein requirements. “It would have been difficult using whole foods,” she says. “I even got creative, using protein powder to create mug cakes, pancakes, pudding, shakes and more!”
One of her favourite protein snacks, tiramisu protein pudding, sounds too delicious to be healthy. But a quick glance at the ingredients Lewit uses shows it’s not just tasty but also good for us:
- 1 scoop of LeanFit whey powder (chocolate or vanilla)
- 170 ml nonfat plain Greek yogurt
- 1 tsp instant coffee, plus more for toppings
- 1 tsp cinnamon, plus more for toppings
- ¼ tsp rum extract
- ¼ tsp vanilla extract
- Stevia-based sweetener to taste
- A pinch of grated 85% dark unsweetened chocolate
“Grab a big mug or jar and mix all the ingredients together except the dark chocolate,” explains Lewit. “Top with grated dark chocolate, the stevia, a sprinkle of cinnamon and instant coffee. Voila! Healthy tiramisu loaded with protein.” She recommends we chill it overnight for the best flavour.
With her new fitness routine and a healthier, protein-rich diet, Lewit shattered her weight loss plateau and saw the fat loss that had evaded her for so long. “At the end of the challenge I had lost 16 pounds and gained so much more confidence!” she exclaims. “I realized through the 12 weeks just how mentally strong I had become. Consistency sure pays off.”
Today, Lewit uses LeanFit’s products to continue to fuel her journey. “I still use LeanFit’s protein powders daily,” she says. “Not only do they taste better than so many other protein powders on the market, the products use only high-quality ingredients and no unnecessary fillers.”
